Matt Weigand is a photographer living in Ann Arbor, Michigan, working for the Ann Arbor News.
He searches his environment for moments, evoked by memories and emotions. With no formal training, Matt began exploring the field of photography in 2008.
Currently Matt works as the photography intern at the Ann Arbor News in Ann Arbor, MI. His past work includes photography editor for The Gonzaga Bulletin, freelance photographer for Gonzaga University Marketing and Communications, the photography intern for the Pacific Northwest Inlander, the Coeur d'Alene Press and the Beaver County Times.
He shoots a variety of subjects ranging from news, sports, concerts, landscapes, and events.
Recently, Matt has won four awards from the National Press Photographers Association. First place for sports action, third place for spot news, and third place for general news for the Midwest region. Additionally, Matt also won a third place honor for sports action in the Mid-West region.
In April of 2015, Matt won two first place honors from the Society of Professional Journalists, Region 10, for feature photography, and general news photography. Again in April 2016, Matt won first place in feature photography and was a finalist for sports photography from the Society of Professional Journalists. Additionally, Matt has twice been invited to participate in Terrain, an annual multimedia art show in Spokane, WA.
