Matt Weigand is a freelance photographer living in Spokane, Washington.
He searches his environment for moments, evoked by memories and emotions. With no formal training, Matt began exploring the field of photography in 2008.
His past work includes photography editor for The Gonzaga Bulletin, freelance photographer for Gonzaga University Marketing and Communications, the photography intern for The Pacific Northwest Inlander, The Coeur d'Alene Press, The Beaver County Times, and most recently, The Ann Arbor News.
He shoots a variety of subjects ranging from news, sports, concerts, landscapes, and events.
Recently, Matt has won a third place award for the 2017 Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters contest, and both a second and third place award for the 2017 Society of Professional Journalists' Top of the Rockies contest. Additionally, he has won multiple awards from the National Press Photographers Association.
In April of 2015, Matt won two first place honors from the Society of Professional Journalists, Region 10, for feature photography, and general news photography. Again in April 2016, Matt won first place in feature photography and was a finalist for sports photography from the Society of Professional Journalists. Additionally, Matt has twice been invited to participate in Terrain, an annual multimedia art show in Spokane, WA.
